Résumé

Susan J. DeBolt

I received a B.A. in English from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in May of 1995. Not surprisingly, my early love of literature led to a love of books themselves. Upon graduation, I immediately began my apprenticeship at a midsized composition firm, Impressions Book & Journal Services, Inc., where I remained employed until July of 2001.

I was initially hired as a Project Coordinator. As such, it was my responsibility to shepherd books and journals through design, editing, and composition. I also served as the communication linchpin between publishers’ representatives and Impressions’ in-house staff, as well as among a variety of freelancers and other service providers. This position afforded me the opportunity to gain a broad understanding of the print manufacturing process, and to learn the importance of good communication and organization to my clients.

In May of 1997, I transferred from the service department to production and began training as a typesetter. I soon discovered that learning to use paging software is relatively easy. Learning how to set high-quality type, however, requires careful training and dedication. Over time, I became known in the company as a specialist in typesetting for scholarly publishers. I earned regular praise and promotions, and gradually rose to a senior position in my department. This success was extremely gratifying, but the satisfaction of helping to produce a fine book was always the best reward.

When I decided to open my own typesetting service, it was with the selfish goal of being able to enjoy that satisfaction with each and every project. I am excited about this opportunity to grow, and am looking forward to new challenges.
